Carole Jean Ard was born September 3, 1944 in Sioux City Iowa. She was a lifelong resident of Sioux City and attended Sioux City Public Schools graduating from Central High in 1962. Carole and her sister, Lucille, were Bulbar Polio survivors thanks to their mother, “Gertie’s” diligent and loving care as she followed the lead of their doctor, who made regular home visits to check their progress.

Carole and her husband, Denny, were married on January 27, 1968. Their son, Matt, was born on March 17, 1976. Carole was a homemaker dedicating her time to raising Matt and housekeeping, with plenty of good Norwegian cooking. Carole was a 45-year member of the Order of Eastern Star serving as Worthy Matron in both the Rose Croix Chapter and Silver Azure Chapter OES. She also served as an Events Coordinator at the Abu Bekr Shrine Temple. She was also a staff member at St. Thomas Episcopal Church. Carole and Denny enjoyed 45 years of Masonic, Shrine, and Eastern Star activities.

She was a fan of many sporting events centered around her family’s activities. She loved fishing at their favorite fishing spots including many ice fishing trips in Minnesota and Salmon fishing on Lake Michigan.  Carole also enjoyed watching Matt play racquetball, softball, hockey, football, and golf.  This provided her great fun and joy. This increased with grandson Tyler’s sports, granddaughter Bailey’s Volleyball and horse competitions, and daughter in law, Malina’s high school volleyball coaching. The Sioux City Explorers were her favorite baseball team.  The players that Matt and Malina hosted along with their family’s became part of our family. She was proud of these baseball family relationships. For that, she was grateful to the Sioux City Explorer’s organization.

Carole is survived by her husband Denny; son, Matt (Malina); granddaughter, Bailey; sister, Lucille Clemens; nephews, Mike and John Clemens, and her cousins located in Minnesota, Texas, and Nebraska.

Carole was preceded in death by her mother Gertrude Potter, stepfather Robert Potter, and grandson Tyler Ard.

Carole’s family is extremely grateful to her family doctor, the doctors and nurses at Unity Point Hospital who gave such warm and loving care to her while in the ICU. The family is also grateful to the staff of St. Croix Hospice for their compassion and vigilant care of Carole while she was made comfortable in her final hours.

Pallbearers for the service will be Brent Eickholt, Randy Kittler, Mark Vaul, Justin Heydon, Bob Lee, and Ryan Lee.
