Carol Elaine Border Stone

January 30, 1946 — October 5, 2025

Sioux City, Iowa

Carol Elaine Border Stone, 79, passed away on Sunday, October 5th.

A visitation will be held at Meyer Brothers Funeral Home (6200 Morningside Avenue, Sioux City) on Sunday, October 12th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., followed by a Trisagion Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will take place on Monday, October 13th at St. Thomas Orthodox Church (1100 Jones Street, Sioux City) at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Graceland Park Cemetery in Sioux City, after a luncheon at the church.

Carol was born on January 30, 1946, to Mahlon and Viona (Anderson) Headid in LeMars, Iowa. She attended school in Sioux City and graduated from East High School in 1964. After one year at Morningside University, she enrolled at Stewarts School of Beauty, earning her degree in cosmetology in 1966. Carol managed the East End Beauty Shop alongside her mother for 50 years before retiring in 2016.

On August 31, 1968, Carol married Gerald Border in Sioux City. Together they had three children: Nichole, Deonne, and Ryan. They shared 37 years of marriage, until Jerry’s passing in 2006. For many of those years, they made their home in Sergeant Bluff.

Carol was a lifelong member of St. Thomas Orthodox Church. She cherished time spent with family at their cabin, boating on the Missouri River and Lake of the Ozarks, Corvette rides listening to oldies and being an active part of her children and grandchildren’s lives.

Carol married Dick Stone on June 24, 2013, in Hawaii. They shared 12 years of marriage together. Carol and Dick enjoyed traveling and attending the grandchildren’s activities until her illness made it difficult.

Carol will be remembered by her children for her tireless work ethic, steadfast devotion, and deep loyalty to her family and friends. Her grandchildren will treasure memories of her warm breakfasts where she poured love into every meal, all of the sleepovers with the best junk food around, and how she loved to have fun with them.

Carol is survived by her husband, Dick Stone of Sioux City; her three children, Nichole (Brett) Drea of Ankeny, Deonne (Derek) Winkel of Ankeny, and Ryan (Angie) Border of Sioux City; Dick’s son, Chad (Penny) Stone of California; eight grandchildren, Brennan (Melissa) Drea, Kaylee (Nicholas) Haugen, MaKenna Drea (Amer Tokmic), Brayden Drea, Delainey Winkel, Jack Border, Dirk Winkel, and Drake Winkel; and one great-grandson, Kolt Haugen.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gerald Border; her father- and mother-in-law, Russell and Georgetta Border; and her sister-in-law, Jeanne Laizure.

The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Rhonda and Bonnie of Rhonda’s Senior Services for their exceptional care and compassion during Carol’s illness.
