IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carey Louise
Godfrey-Butler
June 30, 1958 – January 17, 2026
With a deep sense of both sorrow and gratitude, we come together to honor the extraordinary life of our beloved sister, Carey Louise Butler (Louise). After a courageous battle with cancer, she passed away peacefully, embraced by the warmth of her loving family, Darlene and Doreen Irvin. Louise was born on June 30, 1958, in Winnebago, Nebraska, to Carol Godfrey and Franklin Irvin. She brought light and joy into our lives. Growing up in a nurturing home, the special bond she shared with her sister/cousin, Debra Irvin, beautifully exemplified the essence of love and sisterhood.
Louise was more than a talented singer and an avid reader; she was a source of inspiration to everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her kindness and generosity radiated, making her a pillar of strength and hope for so many. With a contagious laugh that could brighten even the darkest days and a spirit that embraced all, Louise left an unforgettable imprint on our hearts. As a devoted member of our Catholic faith, she nurtured her faith daily and held a deep belief in our Lord Jesus Christ.
After attending St. Joseph’s School and Heelan High School, where she graduated in 1977, Louise pursued her passion for learning at Western Iowa Tech, earning a degree in accounting that led to a fulfilling career. She is survived by her beloved sisters, Debra Irvin, and her two brothers, Edward Irvin and Craig Irvin, both of Phoenix, Arizona. Louise is also survived by her three cherished sisters, Dena Irvin, Dorren Irvin, and Darlene Irvin, as well as two brothers, Dennis Irvin and Dusty Irvin, and was also preceded in death by her father Franklin Irvin & mother, Carol Irvin as well as her older sister Maryann Godfrey and an extensive network of family and friends who will always hold her memory dear.
We warmly invite you to join us in celebrating Louise’s beautiful life, which will be announced at a later date. Instead of flowers, donations in her honor can be made to St. Joseph's School. Though the void she leaves in our lives is immense, her spirit will continue to inspire us all. Arey’s spirit will forever remain a source of inspiration and love in our hearts. Forever.
