Brien O’Brien was born in Sioux City, Iowa August 28, 1961. He attended Blessed Sacrament School and Bishop Heelan High School, it was in high school Brien met his wife, Mary. Together they went to Mankato State and eventually both graduated from the University of Iowa. They married shortly after in June 1986. Brien attended Creighton School of Law and received his law degree. While in law school, Daniel and Timothy were born. After law school they headed for Sibley, Iowa where Brien began practicing law. They eventually moved back to Sioux City where Brien practiced law, became the Dakota County Attorney and returned to private practice for the next 30 plus years. Kennedy and Irelinn were born during those years. Brien retired from the Law business and began driving a bus for the Sioux City School system, which he absolutely loved.
Brien loved his family first and foremost. He loved spending time with his friends. His favorite places to visit were Okoboji and the cabin, Key West and Iowa City to see the Hawkeyes play.
Brien is survived by his wife Mary, children, Daniel (Monica and grandson Conner), Timothy, Kennedy, and Irelinn, his sister Terry (Matt and Bridgett) and sister Shiuvaun. He was preceded in death by his father Donald, mother Ruth and brother John.
In lieu of flowers we are asking for a donation of hats and mittens for grade school children as every year around Christmas time Brien would buy hats and mittens for the children on his bus that did not have any.
