Bonita P. (Polkinghorn) Michelson, 85, of South Sioux City, NE passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2016 at Unity Point Health-St. Luke's Hospital in Sioux City, IA.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, August 18, 2016 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in South Sioux City, NE. Burial will be in the Ponca Cemetery in Ponca, NE. Visitation with the family present will begin at 5:30 P.M., with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE.Bonita was born on November 13, 1930 in rural Ponca, NE, the daughter of Charles and Versa (Green) Polkinghorn. She graduated from Ponca High School and worked as a telephone operator in Ponca and as a bookkeeper for HJ Heinz Company in Sioux City, IA. Bonita married Paul Michelson on June 17, 1956 at the United Methodist Church in Ponca, NE. The couple lived in Omaha, NE and Sioux City, IA before settling in South Sioux City, NE in 1969. After they were married, Bonita was a homemaker before working at Bush Cleaners in Sioux City, IA, which she enjoyed tremendously. She moved to Regency Square Care Center, where she resided for 4 years.She was an active member of St. Paul's United Methodist church, where she was their bookkeeper for many years. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also loved going on outings with her sisters, camping, working crossword puzzles, playing Scrabble and watching game shows.Survivors include her children, Mark (Rita) Michelson and Melonie (Terry) Loutsch; grandchildren, Joshua Schilousky and his fianc, Amber Campbell, Brady Schilousky, Meghan and Morgan Loutsch; and great-grandson, Jaxon Schilousky all of Sioux City, IA; siblings, Orla Delle Arnold, Darlene Nielsen, Lynn Polkinghorn, Royce (Cheryl) Polkinghorn, Mona Lund, Colleen Reich, W. Yvonne Thallas, and Ron Polkinghorn; and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul in 2008; a son, Christopher; her parents, Charles and Versa Polkinghorn; and several brothers-in-law.
