Robert Roe died on January 29th, 2024, at a local hospital surrounded by family.

Robert "Bob" Roe was born April 4, 1938, in Sioux City, Iowa to Orrie Roe and Geneva Kulow.  He attended Whittier Elementary school, East Middle and East High school.  He started working for his family's business, Roe Dairy at the age of 10. He went on to attend South Dakota State and Morningside College.  After his schooling, he continued to work at the family dairy which was later sold to Hillside Dairy in 1974.  In 1961, Bob met the love of his life in Arizona, Karin Klavano, and after one amazing date, they married June 17, 1961.  Then Karin joined Bob in Sioux City and they went on to start a family.  They welcomed a daughter, Terri in 1962; in 1965 they had a boy Bob Jr.; and finally in 1977 they had their daughter Amy.

In 1977, he and his wife opened Westside pizza, which was sold in 2023.  In 1982 they added 20th Pizza on Jay Ave. That operation was then moved to its current location on Transit Avenue and became Bob Roe's Point After.  In 1985 they opened Townhouse Pizza, which was later sold. In 2012 Bob Roe's North Endzone was opened.

Bob had an incredible work ethic; his greatest assets were kindness and personality. When Westside first opened, he would leave Karin cooking while he visited the local watering hole promoting his food.  He made many friends all over town while doing his "PR" work.  He was very proud to be the first to bring his buffalo wings to the Tri-State area.  While on a trip to Arizona, he stopped along the highway at a local food stand. It was owned by a former Anchor Bar employee where once again; Bob used his charm to get the recipe that is still in use today.

Throughout his life Bob sponsored many activities.  There are no words to describe how grateful and humble he was to be involved in many community organizations. Some of them included serving on the Boys Club Board, past President of Local Chapter SABRE, past President of the Transit Avenue Association, and NAIA National Volleyball and Basketball Tournament since it has been in Sioux City.  In addition, he was a member of the Morningside Masonic Lodge for over 50 years, Abu Bekr Shriner, and Jesters.  In 1992 he founded the Knot Hole Gang, which is a group of businesses that purchase Explorer Baseball Tickets and donate them to local non-profit organizations. He has contributed to almost every organization and school groups in town, as well as the surrounding areas.  Many of these organizations and groups include: The Food Bank, First Tee, Sioux City Relays, The Bandits, The Explorers, The Stampedes, The Musketeers, Siouxland Golf Charities, Sioux City Metros, Senior Center, United Ways, Boys and Girls Home, Morningside and Briar Cliff Universities.  Not to mention all the Metro Sports as well as Private and Public Fundraisers. He has always believed in giving back to his community and was incredibly honored to be Parade Marshall at River Cade, Morningside Days, and Mardi Gras.  The Boys and Girls Club was one of Bob’s biggest passions; he served on the board and was involved in the Annual Emory Johnson Auction since 1983.  He believed it was important to have a safe, affordable, educational, and fun environment for all kids.  He was a great Ambassador for Sioux City, he appreciated everything the city offered.

Bob loved attending his children's and grandchildren's sporting events and activities.  Bob could be found most afternoons playing cards with his cronies.  He took special pleasure in taking Rabbit’s money.  He was a lifelong Iowa State Cyclone fan which was instilled into him at a very early age from his father, Orrie, who played football for Iowa State 1928-1929.  His last trip to Ames was incredibly special, being able to travel down the new four lane Highway 20; a project he was told in his teens that it was to be completed but never thought he would see it done in his lifetime.  He really enjoyed traveling with his family and friends, one of his favorite trips was to Scotland.  Seeing the British Open and playing the course at St Andrews (the one where Jean van de Velde choked). He often said, "If I could have played the last hole for him, he would have won, I got a double bogey!"  He loved entertaining people and having dinners with family and friends. One of his proudest moments was when former President Barack Obama visited the Point After.  He stated that he never would have imagined opening a restaurant and the President of the United States visiting.  Many athletes, coaches, and celebrities stopped in to meet him and have his food.  He enjoyed talking to these people as much as he liked talking to anyone.  His legacy will live on through his family and his employees. Many of these employees have been at the point after for 35 years so he considered them all family. The love he had for them was reciprocated back and he took a genuine interest in their lives.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years Karin Roe, daughter Terri (Jerry) Rexius, son Bob Jr (Kathleen), his daughter Amy (Steve) Weimer, 9 grandchildren: Jeremy (Cheri) Houser, Jason (Angela) Houser, Rob (Danielle) Roe, Riley (Derek) Kohn, Gabrielle (Ben) Koithan, Quentin Perera, Sydney Rexius, Sullivan Weimer, Layney Weimer, and 9 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Orrie and Geneva Roe, in-laws Orville and Ruth Klavano, his sisters Mary Ellen Zybell-Phillips and Mary Jane Weaver, brother-in-law Carroll Weaver, and many of his life-long friends that will be waiting for him to continue their life-long shenanigans.

In his honor, love your family, support your community, speak no ill will, and live your life to the fullest.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Boys or Girls Club, Abu Bekr, or any local youth sports organization.

Services will be held 11:00 a.m. at St Thomas Episcopal Church (1200 Douglas St) Saturday, February 3, 2024, with family present from 10-11a.m.   There will be a Celebration of Life to follow at the Point After immediately following the services.

The family would like to thank Unity Point, Palliative Care, and the Visiting Angels.
