Blanche E. Schol

Sioux City, Iowa

  Blanche E Schol, 91 of Sioux City, passed away peacefully at Sunrise Memory Care Unit, on Friday, May 10, 2024. Per Blanche’s wishes, a Celebration of Life will be planned for a later date. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is assisting with the arrangements.

  Blanche was born on December 3, 1932, in Orange City Iowa to William and Gertrude (Mouw) Kraai.  She received her formal education at Orange City Public Schools.  While attending Northwestern College in Orange City, where she met her future husband, William L. Schol.  They were married on March 31, 1953.  

  Her priorities were family and church.  Bill and Blanche were active in both the Presbyterian and Assemblies of God Churches.  They both sang in the church choirs.

  In addition to being a homemaker, Blanche was involved in many social organizations, including Bible study groups, Women Aglow, Christian Women’s Club.  Gospel Mission Auxiliary, Sioux City Women’s Club, Bets Sigma Phi Sorority, PEO chapter DH.   Bridge Clubs, PTA, Cub Scouts, and the Charismatic Renewal Movement in the churches in the 1970’s.

  Blanche was very committed to her church.  The church was a great source of inspiration.  She was a member of Morningside Assembly of God.   Active in all church ministries.   Heading the Greeters Committee, information Center and serving as an usher for many years.  Project leader for Operation Christmas Child gift filled shoe boxes.

  She enjoyed discussing World and current events and politics with family and friends. She was strong minded, had definite opinions of her own and was outspoken about her Christian faith.

  She had many wonderful memories from the Orange City Tulip Festival.  The first Tulip Festival was in 1937. Blanche was in the Queens Court as a little flower girl attendant.  She was involved in the Festival Operetta, Attendant in the Queens Court and in the Dutch dance.

  Blanche’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Sunrise Retirement Community, and specifically the Sunlight Unit, for their wonderful care of Blanche for the last few months of her life, along with St Croix Hospice of Sioux City for their wonderful care during the last couple weeks.

  Blanche was preceded in death by her Husband William (Bill) Schol, Daughter in-law Sherrie Schol.

  She is survived by her sons Robert L Schol (Cindy) of Sioux City, and David L Schol (Nancy) of Altoona IA, Granddaughters Dr Sabrina Taylor (Dr. Matt) of Sioux Falls SD and Michelle Schol of Boulder CO and great grand-daughter Madison James Taylor.
