IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Betty Jane
Bauerly
February 10, 1930 – January 21, 2026
Betty Jane (Huss) Bauerly, 95, of Sioux City went to be with the Lord Wednesday, January 21, 2026, surrounded by all four of her children she adored, she left this world exactly as she lived in it — with grace, warmth, and a heart that never stopped giving.
Betty was born February 10, 1930, in Correctionville, Iowa to Henry and Freda (Clausen) Huss. She was united in marriage to Robert Bauerly Sr. on April 7, 1948. They were married for 59 years until his passing on their anniversary, April 7, 2007.
Betty spent 95 years proving that the secret to a good life is simple: connection matters. Through decades of volunteering at I.C. as well as Bishop Heelan and other organizations, she built community the old-fashioned way — by doing the work, remembering the details, and caring deeply.
Her hands were never idle. A master of crochet, knitting, and cross stitch, she produced baptismal gowns, doll clothes, slippers, potholders, and afghans for family, friends, neighbors, and anyone who stood still long enough. If you knew Betty, she probably made you something — and if she didn’t, she was likely to work on it. She was an avid card and game player and thoroughly enjoyed making mints for anyone's celebrations.
Betty adored her family, especially their annual trips to Bonnie Beach in Minnesota, where she presided over generations of laughter, horseshoes, fish fries, and stories retold so often they became family scripture. She loved puzzles, Sudoku, Solitaire, and researching genealogy. She could recall names, relationships, and even the pets of neighbors from years and years ago. She kept every card, letter, and newspaper clipping about anyone she ever knew, building an unofficial archive of the people she loved. She remembered because she cared.
Her legacy is simple and profound: love generously, give freely and make beauty with whatever is in your hands.
Her presence will be deeply missed. Her spirit will be joyfully remembered.
She is survived by her four children, Robert (Bob) Bauerly Jr. and his wife Nelly of Sioux City, Beverly O'Dell and her husband Mike of Kansas City, Brian Bauerly and his wife Marge of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Brent Bauerly and his fiancée Shauna "Alex" of Kansas City, Missouri. Each of them remembers her as a guiding light, providing love and support throughout their lives.
Along with 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren, each one loved fiercely and in secret always felt like they were her favorite (what a magical gift).
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Bob; her parents, Henry and Freda Huss; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Luella Bauerly; along with all of her siblings and in-laws. She is the last surviving member of her generation on both sides of the family.
Pallbearers will be her great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
