Betty Lou Baker, 86, of Sioux City, passed away Thursday, June 12, 2025 at a local hospital, comforted by family.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, June 27, 2025, at Riverside Lutheran Church with Pastor Tim Squier officiating. A luncheon will follow the service at the church.
Betty was born on February 2, 1939, the daughter of Edmond Harrington and Minnie (Brunssen) Sigler. Betty graduated from Central High School with honors. She worked for St. Luke’s Hospital for 31 years as an accountant and for Flanz Electronics for 17 years as a bookkeeper. Betty was united in marriage to Kenneth Baker on August 17, 1987.
Betty loved watching Iowa Hawkeye Football and the Chicago Cubs. She was an avid bowler with an average of 175. Back in the day, Betty enjoyed playing cards and cribbage for Mary’s Hideaway. Her team was five-time National Champions. Betty also enjoyed working book puzzles, watching and going to horse races with her friends, but most of all she loved tap dancing at the Orpheum Theatre. She was baptised lutheran and a member of Riverside Lutheran Church.
Betty is survived by her beloved husband Kenneth Baker; children: Art Hanford, Valerie Hernandez, Cathy Levering (friend Darm), and Sue Hoover (friend Gina); two stepsons: Kenny John (Shawna) Baker and grandson Gavin, and Kevin E. (Ena) Baker and granddaughter Alondra. Grandsons: Aaron (Jenna) Levering, Scott Hanford, Adam Hernandez, and Tyler Hernandez; great grandchildren: Bailey, Paxton, Brenan, Amber and many more great grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters: Delores “Dee” Randell and Judy Brown.
