Bette Jean Still, a remarkable woman who touched the lives of many, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 10, 2026, in Sioux City, IA, at the age of 87. Born on August 26, 1938, in Kingsley, IA, Bette was the daughter of Robert E. and Julia F. (Munsch) Bainbridge. Growing up on a farm near Kingsley, she displayed an early talent in sports, particularly track and basketball, which would be a source of pride throughout her life.
Bette graduated from Remsen-Union School and pursued further education at Commercial Extension Business School in Omaha. She embarked on a life filled with love and dedication when she married Arvin Berding, with whom she was blessed with five children. On July 11, 1986, she found love again when she married Marvin Still, welcoming his three children into her family.
A devoted homemaker, Bette was known for her hard work and boundless energy. In addition to raising her children, she contributed to the community by working as a secretary in the Catholic Schools in Sioux City and serving as the Athletic Director at Immaculate Conception School. Her passion for coaching girls' track and basketball was evident, and her enthusiasm inspired many young athletes.
Bette lived her life full of kindness and unwavering faith. She devoted much of her time to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where her belief in the power of prayer was the cornerstone of her existence. Friends and family fondly remember her as a great wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, always willing to lend a helping hand, even amid her own health challenges. Her doctors at Mayo Clinic affectionately referred to her as "A Miracle Woman," recognizing her incredible spirit and positivity.
For many, Bette was a second mother and a great friend, known for her boundless support and genuine love. She delighted in baking and spoiling her grandchildren with their favorite treats and was a passionate supporter of Bishop Heelan Sports.
Throughout her life, Bette was a dedicated volunteer through her church, CASA, and hospice services. Her legacy is embraced not only by her family but also by the numerous lives she enriched through her commitment to serving others.
Bette is survived by her husband, Marvin; her children, Beth (Larry) Weatherly, Alan (Janet) Berding, Susan (Darrell) Krewson, Jill (Dennis) Thompson, and Lynn (Sean) Cusick; her stepchildren, Larry (Echo) Still, Michael (Shae) Still, and Julee (Kent) Gatzemeyer; 13 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and five sisters, Sharon Grider, Glenda Garoutte, Julie Ellsworth, Gloria Gehrig, and Mary (Brian) Sorensen. She is also remembered by several nieces, nephews, and a multitude of friends.
Bette was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Blaine Bainbridge; her son-in-law, John Michael Pittman Sr.; and her grandson, Paul Berding.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Bette will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, January 16, 2026, at Mater Dei Parish - Immaculate Conception Church in Sioux City. Visitation will be Thursday, January 15, 2026, from 4:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. with a Rosary service at 4:00 P.M. and a Vigil service at 7:00 P.M. all at Immaculate Conception Church. Private burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Bishop Heelan Catholic School.
Bette's legacy of love, compassion, and unwavering faith will forever be enshrined in the hearts of those privileged to know her.

Following Mass, there will be a luncheon and time of fellowship at the church. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
