Bernice Mazur, age 99, of Sioux City IA, passed away on April 12, 2025, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home two days before her 100th birthday.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at Holy Spirit Catholic Chapel at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 23, 2025. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a Rosary Service starting at 10:00 a.m.. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. The family requests no flowers.

Bernice (Marecki) Mazur, the daughter of Andrew and Veronica Marecki, was born April 14, 1925, in Sioux City. She attended St. Francis Elementary School, Cathedral High school (graduating 1942), and attended Briar Cliff College.

On September 2, 1946 she married John Mazur at St. Francis Church. They were members there until its closure, when they joined Immaculate Conception Church. With John, Bernice enjoyed gardening, reading (especially about travel), puzzles (crossword, word find, and jigsaw), Scrabble, Cribbage, their family and friends, and traveled throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico, and visited countries in Europe, the Mediterranean region, southern Africa, and the South Pacific. Throughout her long life, her personality reflected her curiosity, warmth, welcoming and encouraging nature, and great sense of humor.

She is survived by: sons John (Nancy) of Pahrump NV, and Rob (Semakaleng) of Mount Vernon WA; niece Becky (George) Jacobs and nephews Andy Orth, Phillip (Lori) Orth, Tom (Kandace) Orth; six grandchildren (JC, Jeff, Michael, Neo, Thabisa, and step grandson Tsolo); and four great grandchildren (Zach, Isabel, Maddox and Mason). She is preceded in death by her parents, husband John Mazur (with whom she was married for 70 years), sister Jeanette Orth, brother-in-law Phil Orth, and granddaughter, Sarah Hesse.

The family thanks Holy Spirit Retirement Home and St. Croix Hospice for the wonderful care provided to Bernice and her family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of your choice in memory of Bernice Mazur.
