Bernice Marie (Boyd) Summers, 89, of South Sioux City, NE, passed away September 23, 2020 at home surrounded by her family. A funeral service will be held Thursday, October 1 at 11:00 A.M. at Mohr & Becker Hunt Funeral Home. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 30 from 4-7 P.M. at the funeral home. Bernice was born on March 21, 1931 in South Sioux City to Berten and Eycle (Smith) Santee. She attended South Sioux City High School and lived in South Sioux City her entire life. She was united in marriage to Jack E. Boyd on June 26, 1948. He preceded her in death 1968. On May 31, 1980 she married Donald Summers. He preceded her in death in 1980. Bernice was a member of the Lewis and Clark kitchen staff and worked at the ½ price store and Gordman’s for over 30 years. She was a Cub Scout leader, PTA member and a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in South Sioux City since 1953. Bernice enjoyed being outside working in her yard, Nebraska football, listening to Country and Christian music, dancing and singing in the house, coffee with friends, and visiting her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Those left to honor her memory include her children: Ed (Kathy) Boyd, Minneapolis, MN, Alan (Lois) Boyd, Tampa, FL, Mickey (Marge) Boyd, Chicago, IL, Jackie (Mike) Klassen, South Dakota, Robin Boyd (Ray Cramer), South Sioux City, NE; sister, Maretta Ballinger, Visalia, CA, 15 grandkids, 35 great-grandkids, 2 great-great grandkids on the way; several nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law’s: Shirley Santee Smith and Delores Santee.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands: Jack Boyd and Donald Summers; brothers: Henry Santee, Carl Santee, George Santee, Melvin Santee; and mother-in-law, Venice Persons.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Siouxland or Alzheimer’s Association.
