Barbara Jean Thomas

Barbara Jean Thomas, 85, of South Sioux City, NE, passed away peacefully at her home, on Wednesday October 25, 2023 in South Sioux City.  Funeral services will be held on Wednesday November 1, 2023 at 2 P.M. with a visitation, with family present beginning at 1 P.M. at the Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel, 822 Jennings Street, in Sioux City, IA.

    Barbara was born on September 6, 1938 in Sioux City, IA, the daughter of Paul E. and Doris M. (Ames) Flieder. She attended Sioux City schools. Barb loved the companionship of her dog Lilly. Barb enjoyed spending time with family and friends, any invitation to dance, puzzles, and have a cold one with those she loved.

  She worked at Swift Packing company with her mother, Donnelly Marketing, as a bartender at the Jungle Lounge on Gordon Drive, and worked with her sister at Servicemaster of Siouxland.

  She is survived by her daughter, Pamela (Robert) Kirby of Arizona; her 3 daughters: Doris Peterson of Sioux Falls, SD; Tadhg (Matthew) McClendon of Sioux City, IA; and Eva (Jose) Rodriguez of Everman, TX; brother Robert (Becky) Flieder of Texarkana, TX; and brother-in-law Carroll Sigaty of South Sioux City, NE. She also leaves behind 11 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren, many loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

  She was preceded in death by her daughter, Paulette Ahmad; son, Ricky Lee Clay, Sr.; her parents; her sisters, MaryLou (Flieder) Sigaty; and Paula (Flieder) Berg.
