Barbara Jean Ruehmann

December 16, 1946 — September 25, 2020

Barbara Jean Ruehmann peacefully passed away in her sleep on September 25, 2020 after a lengthy illness.  A memorial service will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, October 17, 2020 at Faith Lutheran Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  

Barbara was born December 16, 1946 in Le Mars, Iowa, to Roger and Mildred (Miller) Van Dyke. She attended schools in Sioux City, graduating from Leeds High School in 1966. After graduation, she attended Nettleton Business College in Omaha, taking computer programming and keypunch classes. She continued to live in Omaha and worked for the Omaha National Bank for several years.

On October 2, 1971, Barbara married Gary Ruehmann in Sioux City. They later divorced. They moved to Rochester, MN, and she worked for IBM for 13 years as a computer operator. Barb returned to Sioux City in November 2001 after being diagnosed with serious medical issues.

She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and served as Financial Secretary for several years. She also volunteered at the Soup Kitchen.

Barb enjoyed golfing, camping, NASCAR and spending time with her family.

Barb is survived by her sisters, Phyllis Olson, Cynthia Weaver, and Karen (Charles) James, all of Sioux City; sister-in-law, Kristen Van Dyke of Ankeny; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews; and aunts, uncle and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Duane; brother-in-law, Melvin Olson; nephew, Michael Allison; and both sets of grandparents.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Heart Assoc., the American Lung Assoc., Hospice of Siouxland, Faith Lutheran Church or MainStreet Living.
