Barbara Jean Kimmel

Barbara Jean Kimmel, of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at the age of 78.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, December 22, 2025, at First United Methodist Church. Visitation with the family will be from 9:00 A.M. until service time. Burial will be at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Barbara was born on November 10, 1947, in Sanborn, Iowa, to Vernon and Joan Bogaard. She graduated from Sanborn High School in 1966 and went on to build a distinguished career as a real estate broker in Sioux City, Iowa, serving her clients and community for 40 years.

Above all, Barbara was a devoted wife, loving mother, and proud grandmother and great-grandmother. She cherished time spent with her family, especially at the family lake home in Okoboji. She enjoyed playing bridge and loved being out on the boat with her family, often with Elvis playing over the speakers—moments her family will always treasure.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Thomas Kimmel; her sister, Mary Dunn; her brother-in-law, Orville Ginger; her sons, Daniel Kimmel (Heidi) and Matthew Kimmel; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Sadie, Jacob, Julianna, Grace, Zaylie, and Jasper.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Joan Bogaard; her sister, Kathy Ginger; and her brother-in-law, Bill Dunn.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
