Barbara Ann Serviss, 55, passed away unexpectedly at her residence near Jefferson, South Dakota on Saturday, July 6, 2024. Barb, the daughter of Michael and Linda (Clark) Butler, was born on June 13, 1969, at the Royal Air Force Lakenheath Base in Suffolk, England. Throughout her life, Barb embodied strength and determination, traits that defined her personality. She was a military child who spent her early years on various Air Force bases before dividing her teenage years between California and Texas. Barb furthered her education by attending Cabrillo College in California.
Barb was united in marriage to Rodger Serviss on June 18, 1989, in Sioux City and they were blessed with three children.
For the past 30 years, Barb dedicated herself to serving the community through her work at the United States Post Office. Her commitment led her to the role of Postmaster at the Dakota City, Nebraska Post Office, where she excelled in all her responsibilities and was actively involved in the community.
Beyond her professional life, Barb had a deep love for spending quality time with her family, adored her grandchildren more than anything else, and was always willing to help anyone in need. Her surviving family members include her father, retired Chief Master Sgt. Michael Butler and his wife Myrna; her loving husband Rodger Serviss; three children: Elizabeth Franco and husband Nicolas, Eric Serviss and wife Amanda, and Elaine Shoemaker and husband Robin; as well as three grandchildren: Jade Serviss, Daisy Shoemaker, and Osborne Shoemaker. Additionally, Barb is survived by one brother, Cody Strength. She was preceded in death by her mother, Linda.
A Memorial Gathering to honor and celebrate Barb’s life will take place on Saturday, July 13, 2024, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City, Iowa.
