Obituary

Barbara “Barb” A. Schindler, 92 passed away Saturday, April 11, 2026 at Sunrise Manor in Sioux City, Iowa. A visitation will be Thursday April 16, 2026 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel on Hamilton Blvd. Funeral service will be Friday, April 17, 2026 at 9:30 A.M. at Calvary Lutheran Church in Leeds. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa. Online condolences may be directed to meyerbroschapels.com.

Barb was born the daughter of Ernest and Alice (Lentz) Brodersen on September 28, 1933 at home in Hartington, Nebraska. She was baptized October 22, 1933 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Coleridge, Nebraska. She grew up on the farm near Hartington. She attended and graduated from Hartington Public School in 1951 and went on to study at Sioux City School of Business. Barb married William “Bill” F. Schindler on July 1, 1956 in Coleridge, Nebraska. To this union three children were born, Kevin, Karen, and Keith. They made their home in rural Hinton, Iowa on an acreage for 40 years. Then in the fall of 1996 they moved to their home in Leeds, Iowa.

Barb worked at Blue Cross Blue Shield until she welcomed their family. She stayed home to care for them until She later went back to work for Jolly Time Popcorn for 21 years until her retirement.

Barb took pride in being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren and socializing with her friends. She loved going out to eat, taking car rides, and going to the VFW to Polka dance. Barb and Bill enjoyed vacationing, taking bus tours, and going to the Hard Rock and WinnaVegas.

She is survived by her children, Kevin (Lisa) Schindler of Le Mars, IA, Karen (Ray) Anderson of Ponca, NE, and Keith (Camille) Schindler of Hinton, IA on the old homestead; siblings, Judy (Greg) Dirckx, Roger Brodersen, and Bob (Jean) Brodersen; grandchildren, Jeremy (Diane), Alex (Elizabeth), Cole (Carli), Katelyn (Michael), Madysen (Daniel) and Will; and 5 great grandchildren, Bentley, MacKenzie, Elliot, Connor, and Aislynn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; brother, Alan; sister, Donna; sisters- in- law, Wilma and Pat; brother-in-law, Harold; in-laws, Emma and Delbert McLain, Henry and Marlene Schindler, and Walter and Arlene Schindler; and step mother, Beulah Brodersen.
