Armand Joseph Menard Jr., affectionately known as "Sonny Boy," passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at the Holy Spirit Retirement Home in Sioux City, IA at the age of 96.. Born on February 14, 1929, in Sioux City, he was the eldest of ten children born to Armand Joseph Sr. and Gertrude (Lamoreux) Menard. Armand’s humble beginnings laid the foundation for a life characterized by a strong work ethic.
Armand grew up in Jefferson, SD, where he left school early to support his family. His commitment to hard work became evident at a young age. From 1947 until the plant closing in 1980, he dedicated his working life to Sioux Quality Packers, a division of Armour and Company. Following the closure of the plant, Armand transitioned to Old Home Bakery, where he continued to demonstrate his unwavering dedication until his retirement due to health reasons.
On March 10, 1948, Armand married Ruth (Wilton) Menard in Pender, NE. This union was blessed with four children. Armand was a man of profound faith, attending Mass daily, reflecting his deep-rooted Catholic beliefs.
A simple man at heart, Armand enjoyed the small pleasures in life. He found joy in bowling and cherished coffee with friends. In retirement, he and Ruth enjoyed traveling.
Armand is survived by his children: Doris Lozano and her significant other Mike Owens of McCook Lake, SD; Mary Woodard and her husband John of Akron, IA; and Paul Menard and his wife Denise of Merrill, IA; 11 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters: Helene Jones and Carol Stepps, along with her husband Bob, residing in California. Additionally, Armand is remembered by several other relatives and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Ruth on January 21, 2010; his son Armand Menard III; granddaughter Rachel Lozano Sowicki; and seven siblings: Wayne Menard, Francine Nation, Melvin Menard, Sally Thompson, Francis Menard, Duane Menard, and Andy Paul Menard.
Visitation for Armand will be held on Friday, December 12, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City, IA, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Sioux City.
