Anthony “Tony” Sherman Holmberg, 87, of Sioux City, IA passed away on February 17, 2024, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home.
Cremation rites will be accorded and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
Anthony “Tony”, the son of Lawrence and Dorothy (Edgington) Holmberg, was born September 22, 1936, on a farm near Walthill, NE. He was raised on a farm between Bancroft and Lyons, NE where he attended country school. He graduated from Lyons High School. Following graduation, Tony enlisted in the United States Army and served until his honorable discharge. After returning home, he attended Wayne State for a short time then started working at Holmquist Elevator in Lyons, NE.
Tony was united in marriage to Emma Jean Bolton on June 22, 1962, in South Sioux City, NE and this union was blessed with four sons. Tony and Emma lived in Lyons then moved to South Sioux City for a short time before moving to Sioux City. Tony worked as a drill press operator for Sioux Tools for 36+ years until his retirement. Tony’s hobbies included fishing, camping, and he enjoyed coaching and watching sports.
He is survived by his wife Emma of Sioux City; four sons: Vern (Barb) Holmberg of Onawa, IA, Tony (Wendy) Holmberg of Jackson, NE, Tim (Tammy) Holmberg of Sioux City, IA, and Ron (Heidi) Holmberg of Grantsville, UT; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; one brother Jerry (Elaine) Holmberg of Norfolk, NE; one sister Mary Sue Klein of Omaha, NE; and one sister-in-law Linda Holmberg of Adel, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings: Lawrence “Sonny” Holmberg Jr., Charlotte Holmberg, Fred Holmberg, and Erma (Pat) Gatzemeyer.
