Annette “Babe” was born November 20, 1934 in Ocheyedan, Iowa. She was the fifth of five beautiful children born to Cobus and Tena (Nachtigal) Behrens. Annette was baptized on December 16, 1934. She grew up on the farm in Iowa and Minnesota, graduating from Worthington High School in 1953. Annette married Lester Poss on December 23, 1955. They made their home in Rock Rapids, Iowa. Following the birth of their first two children, they moved to Sioux City and were blessed by a third child. Finally settling in South Sioux City, they again were blessed by a fourth child.

Throughout her life, she worked many jobs. Her first career was being a homemaker, wife, and mother which she did with excellence. Annette wore many hats in the workforce, with her favorites being her time at the flower shop and working for her son, Dr. Dean Poss at Heartland Chiropractic Clinic. His patients were like family to her.

Annette loved serving others. If there was a way for her to help or lend an ear, she was there for you. Family and friend celebrations – which were many – were highlights throughout her life. Never one to attend a get-together empty handed, we will miss her vinegar heavy potato salad and deviled eggs, as well as her infamous rhubarb crisp – a potluck favorite. She loved celebrating everyone’s life events and accomplishments. She dearly loved you all! Your pain was her pain, your celebration, her celebration.

Hot (spicy) spaghetti dinner became our Christmas tradition, a family favorite recipe which she was extremely proud of. Annette treasured all the gifts big and small bestowed on her by family and friends, especially the gift of time – be it a phone call, card, Facebook message or personal visit. She loved keeping up with everyone and genuinely cared. Her hobbies included plants, flowers, gardening, and ushering at the community theatre.

Annette was a longtime member of Hope Lutheran Church where she served as a greeter, teller, Sunday School helper, cohost of Luncheon for the Blind, as well as providing salads and baked goods for many funerals and dinners over the years. Her faith was strong and spreading the Gospel was very important to her.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Annette’s name to Hope Lutheran Church or Holy Spirit Retirement Home.

Annette is survived by her children, Dr. Dean Poss of Sioux City, Karen (Brian) Hickman of Sioux City, Roger (Melanie) Poss of Merrill, and Diane (Lance) Penfield of Elk Point; 14 grandchildren, Ericka, Keith, Katie, Emily, Nick, Shelby, Connor, Devan, Kylie, Jessica, Cody, Colin, Myra, and Chance; 34 great grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Marianne.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lester; brother, Dale Behrens; sisters, Mary Stelter, Shirley Gruis, and Lorraine Duitsman (her partner in crime growing up).
