Ann L. Hinds

June 10, 1955 — March 2, 2024

Sioux City, IA

Ann Louise Hinds, 68, of Sioux City, Iowa, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2024, at MercyOne Medical Center, following an extended illness.

Ann was born June 10, 1955, to Ronald Albert Schuetz and Virginia Darlene Schuetz (nee Desy) at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa. She spent her early years in Cedar Rapids, Iowa before returning to Sioux City where she graduated from Bishop Heelan Catholic High School in 1973.

Ann married Mark E. Hinds on May 18, 1974, at Sacred Heart Church in Sioux City. While moving to several cities over the years they raised three children: Sarah Ann, Katherine Taylor and Bradley Rowland.

Returning to Sioux City in 1993, Ann spent twenty-nine years in retail management employed by the Wall Street Mission/Goodwill of the Great Plains, finally retiring as her health began to fail.

Ann most enjoyed spending time with her husband and family. She was excited to welcome her ninth grandbaby in May 2024 with her son, Brad, and Brigitt.

Ann never grew tired of playing with her youngest grandchildren on the floor, letting them win at board games, reading books (Berenstain Bears was always a favorite), and rocking them to sleep. Ann was a master fort-builder, no couch cushion or blanket went unused during construction. As her grandchildren grew up, Ann loved hosting board game and movie sleepovers. Visiting the Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo and Butterfly House in Sioux Falls were favorite family trips. She loved late-night Target runs with her daughters.

Ann also enjoyed visiting Sanibel Island, FL and spending time with sisters Salli and Jane.  She always looked forward to pizza and movie nights with her father, Ron, and sister, Nicky, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home.

Ann was an avid reader of mystery and crime fiction, enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and playing solitaire on her Kindle. Although she had a super-power for evading the camera at family events, Ann is leaving her family with many cherished memories of her beautiful smile, contagious laughter, and loving spirit.

Ann is survived by her husband, Mark Hinds; her daughters Sarah Case (Jon), Kate Lanagan (Josh), her son Brad (Brigitt Bigbee), her eight grandchildren: Alex, Charlotte, Jonathan “Jack”, and Benjamin Case, Dylan and Anna Lanagan, and Lucian and Arloine Hinds. She is also survived by her father, Ron Schuetz and her sisters Salli Kirkland (Billy) of Sanibel, Florida, Nicky Lyon (Mark) of Spink, South Dakota, and Jane Schlumbaum (Steve) of Fort Myers, Florida. Ann was preceded in death by her mother, Virginia “Ginger” Schuetz.

Services will be held Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 5010 Military Road in Sioux City. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM with the funeral mass at 10:00 AM. Inurnment will take place immediately following the mass at Calvary Cemetery, 2802 Casselman Street in Sioux City. A luncheon will be served at the parish hall after the inurnment. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
