Andrew (Andy) James Kovarna, 48, of Hinton, Iowa, passed away peacefully at his home on April 17, 2025, of natural causes. Visitation will be held at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel on Monday, April 21, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hinton, with Pastor Alex Kaldahl officiating. Burial will take place at a later date at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Main Street Living, Trinity Lutheran Church, or a trust fund for James and Kali Kovarna.

 Andy was born in Sioux City, Iowa, and graduated from Hinton Community School in 1994. A dedicated and hardworking man, Andy was the co-owner of Premier Woodworking alongside his longtime friend and business partner, Ryan Lahrs. He also farmed with his brother, Tom, sharing a connection to the land and his roots.

 Andy was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hinton, where his faith was an important part of his life. He enjoyed a wide variety of hobbies including hunting, fishing, golfing, gardening, cooking, and playing cards. Most of all, he cherished spending time with his family and friends.

 Andy was very well known throughout the community and loved by many for his big heart, friendly spirit, and willingness to help anyone in need. His presence brought warmth and laughter wherever he went, and he leaves behind a legacy of kindness, hard work, and deep connection to those around him.

 He is survived by his beloved children, James Kovarna and Kali Kovarna, both of Hinton; their mother, Alicia Hohl of Sioux City, Iowa; his mother, Norma Kovarna of Hinton; his brother, Tom Kovarna of Hinton; his sister, Darcy Sammelson of Vermillion, SD; his niece, Ashley (Tony) Bracht of McCook Lake, SD; and great-nephews and niece, Tim, Ted, and Lauren of McCook Lake, SD.

Andy was preceded in death by his father, Larry Kovarna; his brother, Tim Kovarna; his brother-in-law, Greg Sammelson; and his grandparents. 

Honorary pallbearers will be Ryan Lahrs, Jeremiah Jauer, Brent Jarvis, Jeff Kovarna, Josh Kovarna, and Chris Kovarna.

 Andy’s memory will live on in the hearts of his loved ones and the many lives he touched. He will be deeply missed.
