Allen Leo Kurtzhals, 82, of Kingsley, IA, formerly from Sioux City, IA, passed away Sunday, December 11, 2022 at his residence in Kingsley. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com Allen was born November 17, 1940 to Albert and Ella (Heuertz) Kurtzhals in Le Mars, IA. After School, Allen enlisted into the United States Army where he was a decorated veteran, serving his country for 26 years. He was ordered to active duty in support of the Vietnam War and Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. Allen was a true patriot and loved to celebrate America which was represented daily in his ball cap. His enthusiasm for America was contagious and caused you to love America just that little bit more. Allen was a generous person, and he was always one phone call away if you were in need. On Sept. 25, 1965, he married Linda Welty at Cathedral of the Epiphany in Sioux City. To this marriage they were blessed with two wonderful children. Following their marriage, the couple moved to Le Mars, Iowa. In 1972, the family moved to Alta, Iowa, where they resided until 1985. They later lived in Mesa, Ariz., from 1985 to 2003. They returned to Sioux City, where they had resided ever since. Throughout their marriage they had the honor to be foster parents. Linda passed away March 26, 2013. He later married Glenda Bomgaars on April 4, 2020 in Sioux City, IA. They built a house together in Leeds, IA and then decided to move to Kinglsey where they had resided since. To this marriage Allen was blessed with two bonus children and two bonus grandchildren. Allen enjoyed many things through out his life including cooking, traveling, camping, rescuing dogs and watching western shows. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He will be remembered as being strong, goofy, a dedicated husband, father and friend, who lit up the room. He will be missed by his wife, Glenda Kurtzhals of Kinglsey, IA, two children, Shelly (Barry) Hammen of Storm Lake, IA and Chris (JoAnna) Kurtzhals of Phoenix, AZ, three grandchildren: Michael Hammen, Megan Hammen and Dietrich Kurtzhals, one great-grandchild, Paisley Darnold-Hammen, three siblings: Arlene Miller, Roseann (Harry) Mulder and Doris (Ed) Beitelspacher, two bonus children, Stephanie Schiebout, Travis Schiebout, and two bonus grandchildren, Maddie and Hudson Schiebout; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Linda Kurtzhals, parents, Albert and Ella Kurtzhals, brother-in-law, Ron Miller and his beloved poodles, Tasha and Levi.
