Alice Marie Swick, 95 of Rural Newcastle, Nebraska passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at the Elms Nursing and Care Center in Ponca. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 29, 2023 at Gospel Church in Newcastle with Pastor John Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Daily Cemetery, in the Daily Township. Visitation, with the family present, will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 28th at the church with a Prayer Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Mohr Funeral Home of Ponca is assisting the family. Alice was born on November 1, 1927 in rural Dixon County to Burt and Sarah “Mable” (Armstrong) Grosvenor. Following her high school graduation, she completed "Normal School” in Wayne, Nebraska, where she received her teaching certificate. She taught school for a few years, and married Melvin C. Swick on November 10, 1945 in Martinsburg, Nebraska. The family farmed in rural Dixon County, where Alice enjoyed being a homemaker, farm-wife, and mother to their children. She was a member of the Gospel Church in Newcastle, Nebraska, where she was a Deaconess, Sunday School Teacher, and VBS Teacher.
Alice is survived by her children Connie (Ron) Lamm of Newcastle, Nebraska, Melvin (Sue) Swick Jr. of Sioux City, Iowa, Marvin (Carla) Swick of Ponca, Nebraska, and Joseph (Sandy) Swick of Sioux City, Iowa; brother Harold Grosvenor of South Sioux City, Nebraska; 25 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, husband Melvin in 1991, four brothers, Dale Grosvenor, Vernon Grosvenor, Robert Grosvenor, and Darrel Grosvenor, three sisters Doris Grosvenor, Dorothy Grosvenor, and Helen Carey, great-grandson Justin Swick, and daughter-in-law Rita Swick.
