Adeline L. Robinson, 97 of Sioux City, formerly of rural Lawton, Iowa, passed away on Monday, January 5, 2026, at her residence at Sunrise Retirement Community. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 10, 2026, at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Lawton, Iowa with Pastor Robert Zellmer officiating. Interment will follow at Banner Township Cemetery of rural Lawton. Visitation, with the family present, will be one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday morning. Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
Adeline was born July 29, 1928, in rural Lawton, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Alta (Johnson) Rasmussen. She attended and then graduated from Lawton High School in 1945. During high school, she played 6-on-6 girls’ basketball. She excelled at being a guard on the basketball team while earning state honors. After high school, Adeline worked at the Ford garage in Moville.
Adeline met Harold “Plush” Robinson in March 1946. They were married on December 1, 1947, at the First Lutheran Church in Sioux City, Iowa. The first months of their marriage they lived in Moville before returning to Lawton in 1948.
On October 2, 1948, Adeline and Plush opened Plush’s Service, a gas station and repair shop. They worked as a team to keep the business open and running successfully. Adeline ran after parts, repaired tires, pumped gas, and was the bookkeeper.
In 1960, Adeline became the board secretary and business manager at the Lawton-Bronson Community Schools. Adeline loved going to work every day. She retired after 30 years of service.
Following her retirement, Adeline volunteered around 30 years at Sunrise Retirement Community by watering the flowers and assisting with Bingo. Adeline and Plush were honored with the Governor’s Award for volunteering. She enjoyed visiting with the residents and employees. During her last years of her life, Adeline was a resident of Sunrise where she enjoyed activities and spreading her smile to others.
Throughout her life, Adeline was involved in the community. She was an instrumental part in organizing the Lawton Fourth of July celebrations. Also, she supported the Lawton-Bronson Schools. She was a member of the F.A.N. Club, Card Club, SMILE Club, Lawton Centennial Committee, and the Dancing Grannys and Grandpas.
Adeline was active in the American Legion Auxiliary at the local, county, district, and state levels. She held a variety of positions. Also, Adeline was involved with the 98th Bomber Group and Ex-POW Chapters where she served as a treasurer.
Adeline’s interests included playing Bridge, caring for her plants and yard, and watching for cardinals outside her window. Adeline loved to travel where she reached 49 states. She had an immense love for her family that included her daughter, Shirley, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Adeline attended many of her family’s events including band concerts, athletic events, educational achievements, dance recitals, and birthday parties. She was very proud of her family.
Adeline’s faith was a huge part of her life. A proud moment for her was being baptized and confirmed on the same day. She was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Lawton, Iowa. Adeline would read her Bible and devotions and pray for her family every night before going to bed.
Adeline will be missed by her daughter, Shirley, and her husband Lonnie Ehlers of Moville, Iowa; a grandson and his wife, Loren and Julie Ehlers of Oakland, Nebraska; two granddaughters and their husbands; Lori and Jamie Collins of Fort Calhoun, Nebraska, and Lisa and Robert Dandurand of Salix, Iowa, and her 5 great-grandchildren: Lillian, Landon, and Logan Ehlers, and Ellie and Macie Collins. Also, she is survived by a brother-in-law, Bedford Robinson, a sister-in-law, Pert Degen, and many nieces and nephews.
Adeline was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sister, Kathryn Quintard.
