Viola Mary (Kolls) Meier

February 15, 1920 — April 20, 2009

Viola M. (Kolls) Meier, 89, of Sioux City, passed away on Monday, April 20, 2009, at a local nursing home. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2009 from 3-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. A vigil service will begin at 7:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 24, 2009 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Monsignor Roger Augustine celebrating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Viola was born on February 15, 1920, in Hartington, Ne, to George and Mary (Biernbaum) Haberer. She grew up in the Crofton, NE, area where she attended school.

Viola married Herman Kolls on October 9, 1943, in Crofton, NE. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1947. They later moved to a farm just east of Sioux City, where they farmed and she cleaned houses until 1972. Viola and Herman then moved to the Riverside area. Herman passed away on July 22, 1982.

Viola later married Raymond T. Meier on October 29, 1983 in Sioux City. Ray and Viola enjoyed going to the Senior Center. She was a very good mother, grandmother and always got a kick out of the great grandchildren.

Viola loved cooking, playing cards, embroidering, listening to country music, and gardening.

Survivors include her 3 children, James and wife Sandra Kolls of Sioux City, Robert and wife Penny Kolls of Kearney, NE, and Mary Ann Peter and husband Wayne of Omaha, NE, 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Clara Haberer of Crofton, NE, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 1st husband, Herman Kolls, 2nd husband, Raymond Meier, 2 sisters, Victoria Hendricks and Veronica McCabe, 2 brothers, Harold and Arnold Haberer.

Serving as, casket bearers will be Tim Kolls, Nick Svendsen, Nathan Keleher, Josh Kolls, David Peter and Richard Peter. Honorary casket bearers will be Josh Graham, Austin Svendsen, Bruce Collins, Robert Painter and Chris Milner.
