Howard Eugene Anderson, 75, of Jefferson, S.D., formerly of Sioux City, passed away Thursday, May 11, 2006, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D., following a brief illness

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Jefferson, with the Rev. David Roehrich officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel in Sioux City. Cremation will follow the visitation. Howard was born Sept. 17, 1930, in Jackson, Neb., the son of Fred C. and Edith M. (LaPage) Anderson. He attended school in Ponca, Neb. He served in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1950. Howard worked at the Sioux City Fantles Store. Next, he moved to Minneapolis, Minn., where he worked for Dayton-Hudson for 38 years. He later returned to Siouxland, residing in Salix, Iowa, for 10 years. For the past three years, he had lived near Jefferson.

Howard was a very friendly and caring person. He enjoyed visiting with friends, square dancing and ballroom dancing. He was a member of the Spares and Pairs Square Dance Club and Senior Center in Sioux City.

Survivors include two daughters, Barb Gabel and Ruth Chapman, both of Minneapolis; a special friend, LaVonne Baker of Jefferson; a sister, Catherine House of Salix; three brothers, Donald, John and Arthur Anderson, all of Sioux City; nine grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by both parents; three brothers; and a daughter, Cindy.
