Lola Marie Armstrong

November 26, 1915 — June 7, 2006

Lola Marie Armstrong, 90, of Sioux City died Wednesday, June 7, 2006, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home following an eight month illness with cancer.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. James Sands officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Lola Marie Armstrong was born Nov. 26, 1915, in Newcastle, Neb., the daughter of Thomas and Bessie (Gaylord) Bagley. She grew up in Newcastle and graduated from Newcastle High School in 1933.

She married Sterling Armstrong on Sept. 5, 1934, in Ponca, Neb. Sterling died Dec. 23, 1996. Lola had lived in Newcastle, the Ponca area and in Sioux City.

She had been a member of Whitfield United Methodist Church and the Sioux City Police Women's Auxiliary. Lola was a kind, generous and loving person, who liked nothing more than to share her delicious baked goods with loved ones. She also loved to sew and was an avid reader although the highlights of her days were family and friends.

Survivors include a son, Paul Armstrong and his wife, Janell, of Omaha, Neb.; three daughters, Peg Thompson and her husband, Roger, and Loretta Chase, and Jeanne Molitor of Hiawatha, Kan.; a sister, Gladys Balcom of Burke, S.D.; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sterling; a daughter, Shirley; two brothers, Don and Walter Bagley; a sister, Nellie Grieve; and two sons-in-law, Howard Chase and Milo Molitor.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland or Holy Spirit Retirement Home.

The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the Holy Spirit Assisted Living staff for all their loving care during her illness; the Hospice Program and her special nurse, Julie, who provided such comfort and support.
