Ruby B. Chub Barber, 81 of South Sioux City, Nebraska passed away Friday, January 23, 2009 at a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Rev. Martha Anderson of Trimble United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Dakota City (Nebr.) Cemetery. Ruby was born February 21, 1927 in Gregory, South Dakota, the daughter of William and Emily Lapour Warnkvist. She grew up between Gregory and Alcester, SD. In 1945 she came to Sioux City and worked at the Sioux City Battery.
On Jan. 31, 1948 she married Robert E. Barber, Sr. in Sioux City, Iowa. They later divorced in 1974. She was a homemaker until 1967 when she went to work for Sioux City Community School District at their central kitchen. In 1970 she started working in housekeeping for St. Joseph Hospital and retired from Marian Health Center in 1989 as supervisor of housekeeping. She was a member of Trimble United Methodist Church and the South Sioux City Eagles Club. Ruby enjoyed family, friends, gardening and dancing, especially polka music.
She is survived by two sons, Robert Barber, Jr. and his wife, Maxine and Randy Barber and his wife, Trish all of Sioux City; a sister, Ardyth Karel and her husband, Bud of Winner, SD; 6 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson, Tim, two brothers, Howard and Harlan Warnkvist and a sister, Marie Bekish, and her life mate, Gib Mayberry.
Pallbearers will be Bo Barber, Gary and Jim Karel, Scott Smith, Matt and Andy Thompson.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Lowell Washburn, Tim, Wyatt, Chris, T.J. and Chance Torticill.
