Helen L. Beuck, 96, of Sioux City died Tuesday, May 9, 2006, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Don Woods of First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Belden Cemetery, Belden, Neb. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Helen was born Sept. 16, 1909, in Herrick, S.D., the daughter, of Nels and Clara (Schmid) Frieberg. She graduated from Beresford (S.D.) High School in 1927 and from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in 1930.

She married Coin J. Beuck on April 14, 1950, in Sioux City. He died Oct. 14, 1984, in South Sioux City.

She began her career in nursing at the Methodist Hospital in Sioux City. She then worked at Brooklyn (N.Y.) Methodist Hospital. She returned to Sioux City, where she worked as an instructor and a nurse. She retired from St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in 1974 after a long career.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She enjoyed playing bridge, traveling and socializing.

Survivors include two nieces and their husbands, Carole and Don Gartner of Carmel, Ind., and Nancy and Larry Godfrey of Lone Jack, Mo.; and a stepgrandson, Larry Sohren of Castle Rock, Colo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Carter Frieberg; two sisters, Doris Hamerly and Leona Oberlin; a niece and her husband, Corine and Lowell Jurgensen; and a sister-in-law, Helen Boysen.
