Rex E. Bingham

Rex E. Bingham, 94, of Sioux City passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2009 with family at his side. A Irish Wake (celebration of life with food & drink) will be held at Soozs Saloon on Saturday, June 13, 2009 beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Wymore Cemetery in Wymore, Nebraska. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Rex was born on April 13, 1915 in Wymore, Nebraska to Frank and Bridgett (McHugh) Bingham. He grew up in Wymore and graduated from Wymore High School. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad until he joined the U.S. Army during W.W.II. He completed two tours of duty being stationed in the south Pacific, the Philippines and mainly in the Fiji Islands where he was a radio communication operator.

After he was honorably discharged in 1950, he returned to Wymore and opened a tavern. It was there that he met and married Betty Mae Fulton. Two children were born of their union, they later divorced.

After marriage he moved to Lincoln Ne. where he became a sales manager for Freemans Shoe Company. In 1955, his business transferred him to Sioux City. For the next 21 years he flourished in his position as sales manager of the Shoe Department at the fine mens clothing store, Weather Wax. Upon his retirement in 1976 he became a mentor & consultant for developing businesses in the Siouxland area. One of his favorite ventures was with Harry Fischer at his pawnshop.

Rex was an avid Cornhusker fan, even attending a Nebraska game during his honeymoon. He also loved to play golf and socialize with all his friends and family. He was a jack of all trades and was always busy with some project.

Rex is survived by his Love and Companion for the last 30 years, Jackie Brandt, of Sioux City, Son, David Bingham of Rancho Santa Margarita California, Daughter, RoxAnn Smith and her husband John of Sioux City, 3 grandchildren, Chad Bingham, Matthew Bingham, Tara (Smith) Elbert and her husband Neal, and 2 grand dogs, Jojo and Charlie Dogg.

His parents, his beloved sister, Besse, and brother, Frank Jr, preceded him in death. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Sioux land Autism Support Group or the Humane Society.
