Arlo R. Blanchard, 87, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007, at a Sioux City nursing home after a lengthy illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, January 5, 2008, at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel, with the Rev. Alan Wicks officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral chapel.

Arlo was born June 4, 1920, in Carrington, N.D., the son of Roy H. and Nora (Lasher) Blanchard.

He married Janice A. Hedlund on April 29, 1944. She preceded him in death on Dec. 26, 2002, in Sioux City.

Arlo was an officer in the U.S. Army and retired in 1980 as a lieutenant colonel. After World War II, Arlo was in the Army Reserve and graduated from Milwaukee School of Engineering. He owned and operated his own business, Applied Equipment. In 1972 he started A.R. Blanchard Co. Inc.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church. His family helped build Glendale Baptist Church.

For vacation, Arlo loved to go fishing at Lake Minnitaki near Sioux Lookout in Ontario, Canada.

Survivors include three sons, Dan Blanchard of Sioux City, Mark Blanchard of Sioux City and Allen Blanchard and his wife, Cindy, of Lake Ozark, Mo.; a brother, Myron Blanchard of Sioux City; four grandchildren, Todd Blanchard of Arvada, Colo., Tiffany Blanchard-Reynolds of Sheridan, Wyo., Jackie Blanchard of Sioux City and Jeff Blanchard of Yankton, S.D.; nine great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Ruby Rodvold of Sioux City.
