Gerald V. Border

Gerald V. Border, 63, of Sioux City died Sunday, May 14, 2006, at his residence.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Thomas Orthodox Church, with the Very Rev. Thomas Begley officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a trisagion service at 7 p.m., at Anderson-Perasso Funeral Home.

Gerald was born Jan. 13, 1943, to Russell and Georgetta (Matney) Border in Sioux City. He graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1961. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in November 1964. He served in Hawaii for 11 months, then in Vietnam for 11 months. Gerald was honorably discharged in July 1966.

He married Carol Headid on Aug. 31, 1968, in Sioux City.

Following his discharge from the army, he worked at Needham's Packing Plant. In 1984, Gerald began working for U.P.S. as a driver for 20 years.

Gerald was a member of St. Thomas Orthodox Church.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Border of Sioux City; three children, Nichole Drea and her husband, Brett, of Ankeny, Iowa, Deonne Winkel and her husband, Derek, of Windom, Minn., and Ryan Border of Sioux City; five grandchildren, Brennan, Kaylee, MaKenna, Brayden and Delainey; and a sister, Jeanne Laizure and her husband, Dan, of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers will be Ryan Border, Derek Winkel, Brett Drea, Jim Muhe, Milo Headid and Dan Laizure.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Thomas Orthodox Church.
