SIOUX CITY -- Sam Bruno, 87, of Sioux City died Thursday, June 11, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Greg Hanneman officiating. Following the service, Sam will be cremated, and private graveside services will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a 7 p.m. prayer service, at the funeral home.

Sam was born May 21, 1922, in Sioux City, to Phillip and Christina (Califor) Bruno. He attended Central High School. Sam served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army. Sam was married to Aileen Bloom on Jan. 2, 1964, at the parsonage at St. John Lutheran Church. Sam worked as a shipping clerk at Prince Hydraulic, retiring in December of 1984.

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Sam enjoyed taking trips to Vegas with his wife, visiting his family and taking vacations.

Survivors include his wife, Aileen Bruno of Sioux City; a son, Gary (Susan) Bruno of Lemoore, Calif.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Fred (Ruth) Bruno of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Nancy Christensen; and eight siblings.
