SIOUX CITY -- Allan B. "Al" Christenson, 69, formerly of Sioux City passed away at South Winds Nursing Home Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009, in Racine, Wis.
Memorials services for both Al and his wife, Linda, who passed away in 2008, will be 5:30 p.m. Friday, August 7, 2009 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. The couple's son, Ray Christenson, will officiate. Visitation will be 4 p.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home. Honor guard members of the Sioux City Professional Firefighters Local 7 will be standing guard during the visitation. Abiding by the family's wishes, cremation has taken place and burial will be at a later date.
Al was born in Onawa, Iowa, on June 21, 1940, to Bernard and Georgia (Scott) Christenson.
He married the former Linda K. Waldon, who preceded him in death in 2008. He served in the U.S. Army. He retired from the Sioux City Fire Department after more than 29 years of service. In his retirement, he worked as a paramedic/security officer for the Riverboat Casino.
He loved the outdoors. He was a gentle, giving person, who would help anyone in their time of need.
Survivors include his children, Lisa (Michael) Mehevic and Raymond (Kim) Christenson; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Gary (Linda) Christenson and Ron Christenson; a son-in-law, Zach Malkemus; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Tammy Malkemus; a grandson, Bradley Christenson; a brother, Norman Christenson; a sister, Christine Christensen; and a stepfather, Robert Lagan.
