Inez L. Dendy

Inez L. Dendy, 82, of Oklahoma, Georgia, Arizona and Iowa, where each of her children lived, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2007, at her daughter's residence in Red Oak following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 11 a.m. today at Riverside Lutheran Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Charles Wolff officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mrs. Dendy was born Sept. 22, 1925, in Akron, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Bertha (Meinen) Tapper.

She married John "Jack" Dendy on Feb. 14, 1953, in Jackson, Minn. He died July 27, 1991, in Sioux City. She was a lady with many hats from waitressing and childbearing to housewife and caregiver.

She was of the Lutheran faith and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed bingo, penny slots, making people smile, traveling and caring for those who needed it.

Survivors include her children, Kathryn "Shelly" Dendy of Mesa, Ariz., Melanie Cornwell of Red Oak, Okla., Michael Dendy Sr. of Mesa, Mark Dendy of Sioux City, Melinda Spriggs of Atlanta, Ga., and Matthew Dendy and his wife, Lori of Sioux City; a special chosen daughter, Rhonda Erwin of Atlanta, Ga.; many other chosen children throughout the United States; grandchildren, Christopher Milburn and his wife, Rebecca, Andrew and Katy Johnson, Clint Killgore and his wife, Anna, Michael Dendy Jr., Jacquelyn, Joseph and Jesika Spriggs; great-grandchildren, Daytona Milburn, Airica and Alyssa Milburn; two sisters, Darlene Roest of Sioux City and Marcella Olmstead of Cherokee, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Betsy Tapper and Marge Tapper, both of Sioux City; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and other close family; and several friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John "Jack" Dendy; a grandson, Joshua Killgore, three brothers, Marvin, Elmer and Darwin Tapper; a sister, Betty Lou Goodwin; and a sister-in-law, Norma Tapper.

Pallbearers will be Michael K. Dendy Jr., Christopher Milburn, Clint Wayne Killgore, Randy Roest, Gary Tapper and Danny Goodwin. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Tapper, Joseph Spriggs, Andrew Johnson, Ernie Severson, James "Boo" Coleman, Brian Olmstead, Steve Preston and Brett Urban.
