John Donald Dorsey Jr.

SIOUX CITY -- John Donald Dorsey Jr., 53, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.

Memorial services will be 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 19, 2009 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Dan Lozer officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

John was born Feb. 16, 1956, in Sioux City, to John and Erma (Morgan) Dorsey. He attended Leeds High School and North High School. He played many sports and held several records. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and served from 1975 to 1976 in San Diego, Calif., and Honolulu, Hawaii.

He married Terri Goetsch on Nov. 21, 1980. They lived in Sioux City and made their home in Leeds. The couple owned and operated Dorsey's Bar and Grill, Dorsey's C. Shop and Dorsey's Triple D over a 20-year period. They had to sell their business due to their poor health.

He loved fishing, hunting and being surrounded by his loved ones. He loved being around his businesses and made many friendships, which he cherished.

He is survived by his son, Tad Dorsey; a sister, Sue Weinmann; a sister-in-law, Tyanne Jacobson; a brother-in-law, Curt Jacobson; his mother-in-law, Mary Goetsch; a niece; four nephews; several grandnieces and grandnephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Terri; his parents, John and Erma Dorsey; and his father-in-law, Jerry Goetsch.

Honorary pallbearers will be Norbert Shoumaker, Curt Jacobson, John Erickson, Gary Goodsel, Jeff Zook, Andy Barkley and Nick Socknat.
