Margaret Louise Engelmann

SIOUX CITY -- Margaret Louise Engelmann, 89, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, July 30, 2009, at a local hospital.

Abiding by the family's wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, August 3, 2009 at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Roger Madden officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery, with refreshments at the church to follow. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Louise was born Oct. 6, 1919, in What Cheer, Iowa, to John and Louise (Kitzmann) Baxter. She attended the University of Iowa for two years and graduated from Grinnell College in 1941.

Louise married Andrew Thomas Engelmann in Kahoka, Mo., on June 30, 1940. The couple relocated to Sioux City in 1947.

Louise was a past member of Woman's Club Chorus, past president of Sioux Med-Dames and past president of PEO Chapter Y of What Cheer, Iowa, and Chapter GZ of Sioux City. She was giving of her time with volunteering at St. Luke's Hospital and was an active member of First United Methodist Church and the Methodist Harmony Circle. Louise gave time to the PTA of Sioux City, of which she was also a past president.

Survivors include her children, Andrea Engelmann of Palm Springs, Calif., John and Janet Engelmann of Overland Park, Kan., Jeff and Julie Engelmann of Norfolk, Neb., and Barbara Miller of Salina, Kan.; and five grandchildren, Andy and Katie Engelmann, Laura Nowak, Justin and Tom Bell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dr. Andrew Engelmann in 1988; and a sister, Elizabeth Coulon.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be offered to the church in Louise's name.
