Genevieve "Jean" Ferris, 85, of Sioux City died Friday, Sept. 29, 2006, at Northern Hills Retirement Home, surrounded by her family.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Daniel Guenther officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Genevieve "Jean" was born May 22, 1921, in Sioux City, the daughter of Albert and Skout Nasser. She attended Sioux City schools and graduated from Sioux City Cosmetology School.

Jean married Joe Ferris on Sept. 9, 1940, in Sioux City. He died Feb. 12, 2000, in Sioux City. The couple lived in Omaha, Neb. and Middlesboro, Ky. before returning to Sioux City in 1949 and had lived here ever since. Jean owned and operated her beauty shop, and she and her husband operated a restaurant in Morningside for many years. Jean was also employed at Greenville Pharmacy.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She belonged to the Carmelite Guild and Catholic Daughters of America. She also served on many committees.

Survivors include a sister, Marie Zakeer and her husband, Bob of Fort Dodge, Iowa; two daughters, Elaine Huss and her husband, Denny of Fort Dodge and Bobbie Rehal and her husband, Bob of Sioux City; two sons, Richard Ferris and his wife, Julie, and Dave Ferris and his wife, Suzi, all of Sioux City; 16 grandchildren, Mike, Steve, Joe, B.J., Rob, Suzi, Dan, Debi, Cheri, Melissa, Aryan, Adam, Christy, Jenny, Kelly and Jody; 21 great-grandchildren, Danni, Nikki, Hannah, David, Josie Jean, Bryan, Alli, Olivia, Alyssa, Carly, Jenna, Ben, Isaac, Sam, Billi, Andi, Mercedes, Alexa, Haley, Makayla and Paiten; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a brother, Marion; and sisters, Dorothy, Rose, Lorraine and Tootie.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Memorials may be directed to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or Hospice of Siouxland.
