Emma F. Garvey, 89, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2006, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. James Bruch officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Dennis Meinen, chaplain of Holy Spirit Chapel officiating, all at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Emma was born April 30, 1917, in Sioux City, the daughter of Arnold and Katherine (Schroeder) Hauswald. She graduated from Central High School in 1934.

She married J.P. "Jack" Garvey on Sept. 18, 1937, in Sioux City. He preceded her in death on July 15, 1970, in Sioux City. She was a lifelong Sioux City resident.

She was a longtime member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. Her hobbies included sewing, knitting and embroidery.

Survivors include five children, Clifford Garvey and his wife, Teresa of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Patricia and her husband, Kenneth Clinton of Mesquite, Nev., Teresa Mogensen of Platteville, Wis., Thomas Garvey and his wife, Carol of Sioux City and Linda Jenness of Mitchell, S.D.; two sisters, Ruth and her husband, Bill Hossack of Sioux City and Alyce Johnson of Las Vegas, Nev.; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Hauswald and Clifford Hauswald; and a sister, Myrtle Kraai.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Grant Garvey, Taylor Jenness, Aaron Mogensen, Alex Mogensen, Joseph Garvey, Jonathan Garvey and James Garvey.
