SIOUX CITY -- Arlene K. Gross, 84, of Sioux City died unexpectedly Monday, May 4, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, May 8, 2009 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Michelle Williamson officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Arlene was born July 16, 1924, in Sioux City, the daughter of Louis and Ethel (Anderson) Schroeder. She grew up in Sioux City and attended Sioux City schools. She graduated from Central High School in 1942.
She married Gene Gross on April 30, 1943, in Sioux City. He died April 10, 1988, at the Veterans Hospital in Omaha. She worked at J.C. Penney's before and for a few years after her marriage. The couple owned and operated Interstate Distributing for many years.
She was a lifelong member of Whitfield United Methodist Church and Ruth's Circle. She also taught Sunday School for 32 years.
She is survived by a daughter, Genene Redshaw, and her husband, Brian, of Hibbing, Minn.; a son, Gene "Chip" Gross Jr., and his wife, Julie, of Sioux City; and six grandchildren, James Redshaw, Laurie (Redshaw) Hurst and her husband, Nathan, Graham Redshaw, Gene "C.J." Gross III, Tyler Gross and Michaela Gross.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gene; her brothers, LeVere Schroeder and his wife, Dalores, Howard Schroeder and his wife, Maydell, John B. Anderson Sr. and his wife, Audrey, and LeVern Schroeder; and a sister, Miriam Schroeder.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Gene Gross III, Graham Redshaw, Tyler Gross, Nathan Hurst, Michaela Gross and Laurie Redshaw Hurst.
