Douglas R Hammond

Douglas R. Hammond, 53, of Sioux City died Tuesday, June 6, 2006, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home following a brief illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Merlin Schrad of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.

Douglas was born Aug. 29, 1952, in Sioux City, the son of Robert L. and Betty Lou (Henrickson) Hammond. He grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Riverside High School in 1970. He was a greyhound dog trainer and traveled throughout the United States with the racing circuit.

He enjoyed bowling, playing cards and doing card tricks. He was proud of the 300 games that he bowled in a tournament.

Survivors include his father and stepmother, Robert and Theresa Hammond of Sioux City; a brother and his wife, Les and Sue Hammond of Sioux City; and three nieces, Tracy and her husband, Tom Everett, Kristy and her husband, Chris Popken and Jessica Hammond, all of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Lou.
