LeRoy August Herbst

October 27, 1974 — February 7, 2009

LeRoy August Herbst, 34, of Des Moines, formerly of Sioux City, died at his residence from complications due to diabetes. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 13, 2009 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Reverend Ralph Shorey officiating. Services will conclude at the funeral home.

LeRoy was born on October 27, 1974, in Sioux City to Larry and Susan (Swanson) Herbst. He grew up in Sioux City and graduated from West High School in 1993. He then attended A.I.B. in Des Moines for 3 years.

LeRoy worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation several years before going to work at Mediacom for the last 6 years.

LeRoy enjoyed listening to and playing music, he had his own D.J. business on the side where he played at all different kind of events. He also loved sprint car racing. He and his family always attended the Sprint Car Nationals in Knoxville, IA every year. LeRoy also enjoyed watching football and was a big Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He loved spending time with his family and friends but LeRoy was above all a very proud uncle to his 2 nephews Kyle and Evan.

LeRoy is survived by his parents, Larry and Susan Herbst of Sioux City, a brother Dean Herbst and wife Cari and their boys Kyle and Evan of Des Moines, IA, Grandmother Ila Swanson of South Sioux City, NE, Aunts and Uncles, Gary Herbst and wife Orlene of Sioux City, Dale Herbst and wife Janelle of Sioux City, Karen Van Auken and husband Dennis of Sioux City, Duane Herbst and wife Mary of Salix, Dennis Herbst and wife Judy of Bronson, Nancy Beach and husband Lee of Republican City, NE, and Rosalie Mason and husband Larry of Dixon, NE.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Marvin Herbst, Shirley Shaver, Darrell Shaver and Andrew Swanson.
