Joe H. Hobbs

Joe H. Hobbs, 68, of Sioux City, died Thursday, May 18, 2006 in Sioux City. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 22, 2006 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Reverend James Bruch officiating. Services will conclude at the funeral home.

Joe was born April 1, 1938, in Fancy Farm, Ky., the son of Lloyd and Pauline (Burgess) Hobbs. He grew up and attended school in Kentucky. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in April 1955. He was honorably discharged in October 1958 in San Francisco, Calif.

Joe lived in Peoria, Ill., for 10 years before moving to Sioux City. He worked in the bread industry for more than 33 years. He then worked at Team Ford for 11 years. He also worked at Sioux City Transit for 1 1/2 years.

Joe attended St. Boniface Catholic Church with his wife Donna. He enjoyed playing golf, dancing, playing cards and spending time with his friends and family, especially his children and grandchildren.

Joe married Illa J. Modlin on Dec. 23, 1957, and to this union four children were born: Mona Krisl of Homer, Neb., Kevin Hobbs of Golden, Colo., Angela Bendinger and husband Dennis of Omaha, Neb., and Kimberly Karch and husband Jared of Omaha.

Joe married Donna Sorenson on May 8, 2003, and his stepchildren include Linda Nelson and husband Dan of Sioux City, Cheryl Lenzen and husband Dan of Sioux City, Doreen LaBarge and husband Tim of Sioux City, and Karen Preisser and husband Gannon of Shasta, Calif.

Survivors include many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Gene Hobbs and wife Shirley of Washington, Ill.; and three sisters, Pat Willet and husband Rudy of Peoria, and Sue and Noland Pierceall and Linda Medley, all of Trenton, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Johnny Hobbs.
