Judith A. Hobbs, 70, of Sioux City, passed away Sunday December 14, 2008 at her home surrounded by her family. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 17, 2008, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Father Gary Snyder and Chaplain Bev Hurni officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
Judy was born on October 24, 1938, in Danbury, Iowa to George and Lorene (Ortner) Hegarty. She moved to Sioux City with her family in 1948. She attended St. Joseph school thru the 8th grade then attended Heelan High School graduating in 1956.
On November 27, 1956, she married Marion Hobbs in South Sioux City, NE. She was a homemaker until her youngest child was in Junior High School. She then went to work at Briar Cliff College and Meals on Wheels for 9 years. Judy then began working at St. Lukes Regional Medical Center for 11 years, retiring in 2003.
She loved gardening, reading books, and cooking. She also loved her family and many friends. She is dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Judy is survived by her 5 children: Lori Buckley and husband Howard of Cottage Grove, MN, Lynne Riordan and husband Doug of Polk City, IA, Scott Hobbs and wife Peggy of Sgt. Bluff, IA, David Hobbs and wife Dawn of Sioux City, IA, and Brian Hobbs and wife Ann of Sturgeon Bay, WI, 13 grandchildren, Amy, Ian, Erin, Brianna, Nathan, Kamilee, Kyle, Kendal, Michael, Emma, Rilee, Evan, and Allison, 8 great grandchildren, Tyler, Austin, Edan, McKenna, Alexis, Aidan, Avery and Brayden. 8 brothers and sisters, Jeri Kayl, Ron & Carol Hegarty, Bob & Dixie Hegarty, Pat & Jim Abdo, Dan & Cris Hegarty, Randy & Pat Hegarty, Terry & Paula Hegarty and Tom & Carol Hegarty and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Husband, Marion on June 4, 2008, 2 brothers-in-law, Leland Hobbs and Gary Kayl.
