SIOUX CITY -- Harlan L. "Nick" Hove, 85, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009, at a local nursing facility.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, December 21, 2009 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Alan Wicks officiating. A private burial will be on Tuesday in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Monday, with the family present, prior to services at the funeral home.
Nick was born March 6, 1924, in Hudson, S.D., one of eight children born to Conrad J. and Ella (Olson) Hove. He was raised in Hawarden, Iowa, graduating from Hawarden High School with the class of 1943. Nick enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving as a sergeant during World War II in the European Theater of War before receiving his honorable discharge in 1945. Nick returned to Hawarden, and later moved to Sioux City, where he was employed by the Armour Packing Company until the packing house's closure. He later worked for Aalfs Manufacturing Company until his retirement in 1989.
Nick married Madonna Decker on June 15, 1973, in Luverne, Minn. He enjoyed sports, including bowling, flowers by working his garden, and sharing his love with cats and dogs.
Nick is survived by his brother, Conrad Hove of Sioux City; sister, Mrs. Robert (Dotty) Hitzemann of Worthington, Minn.; two stepchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Madonna in 1997; four brothers, Thomas, James, Oris and twin bother, Harris; and one sister, Betty Liston.
