Vivian E. Jonas, 91, of Sioux City passed away peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, at Indian Hills Hospice Unit.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Wesley United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Merrill Muller and Laurice Streyffeler officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be the hour prior to the services Wednesday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Vivian was born Oct. 26, 1917, in Crookston, Minn., the daughter of Arnold and Ida (Bergum) Boltman. She graduated from Crookston High School in 1936 and worked as a telephone operator for five years. She met the love of her life on May 17, 1941. She and Robert "Bob" Jonas were united in marriage on Sept. 12, 1942, in Crookston. The couple lived in Seattle, Wash., Tulsa, Okla., and Omaha before settling in Sioux City in 1953. They built their home in Leeds, where they were longtime members of Wesley United Methodist Church. Bob died Sept. 11, 2003, in Sioux City.
She was a member of The Order of Eastern Star and the Shrine Ladies. She belonged to the Telephone Pioneers, Leeds Nature Club, Hawthorne Book Club, Hawthorne Building Aide and was past president of the Hawthorne PTA. Vivian was totally devoted to her family. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed cooking.
Survivors include five children and their spouses, Lynne and Ron Dollerschell of Sioux City, Tom and Susan Jonas of Harrodsburg, Ky., Nancy and Robert Crowe of South Fork, Colo., Patti and Rich Castro of Boulder, Colo., and Doug and Michelle Jonas of Lakewood, Colo.; six grandchildren, Scott Dollerschell, Peter Jonas, Alex Jonas, Tonio Castro, Greg Castro and Chloe Jonas; two stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two sisters, Marian and Cora.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
Memorials may be made in her name to Wesley United Methodist Church or Hospice of Siouxland.
