Francis E. Lambert, 95, of Sioux City, formerly of Jefferson, SD. passed away on Monday, January 21, 2008 at Holy Spirit Retirement Home. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 25, 2008 from 3-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. a vigil service will be held at 7:00 p.m. with Father Dennis Meinen officiating. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2008 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Jefferson, SD with Fathers David Roehrich and Tony Opem concelebrating. Burial will follow at St. Peter Cemetery in Jefferson, SD.
Francis was born December 20, 1912 in South Sioux City, Nebraska to Joe and Obeline (Chicoine) Lambert. He grew up in the Jefferson, SD area, where he attended St. Peter grade school. He then attended Jefferson High School. Francis farmed in the Jefferson area for several years before he began his career at St. Vincent hospital at a purchasing agent and printer. Francis retired from St. Vincent after 25 years.
Francis married Ruth Doohen on August 14, 1937 at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Sioux Falls, SD. She passed away on October 27, 1996 in Sioux City.
Francis was a long time member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Jefferson and also St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elk Point. He later attended St. Michael Catholic Church in Sioux City. Francis was also a member of Catholic Order of Foresters. Francis was also a talented musician, playing the saxophone for several different dance bands in the area.
Survivors include his 4 children, Annette Soule and husband Irv of Sioux City, Connie Soule of Lexington, South Carolina, Kay Econ and husband Steve of Sioux City, and Jim Lambert and wife Dorothy of Sioux Falls, SD. 9 grandchildren, Teresa Jensen and husband Barry of Murphyboro, TN, Debbie Murphy of Sioux City, Mark Soule and wife Micki of Bronson, IA, Don Soule and wife Rhonda of Sioux City, Susanne Gates and husband Gil of Lexington, South Carolina, Heather Econ of Chicago, IL, Christopher Econ of Sioux City, Andy Lambert and wife RaeKell of Beaverton, OR, and Lindsey Lambert of Mission, KS. 12 great, grandchildren and 1 great, great, grandchild. 2 sisters-in-law, Claire Duerst of Penn Valley, CA and Martha Doohen of Rockwell City, IA.
Francis was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ruth in 1996, a brother, Fabian Lambert, 3 sisters, Annette Lambert, Pauline Doohen, and Marie McDonnell.
