Nicholas Z. Lanzourakis

Nicholas Z. Lanzourakis, 83, of Sioux City died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, with the Rev. George Pappas officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, and a Trisagion service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Nicholas was born June 17, 1925, in Nethavre, Crete, to Zacherias and Thespo (Elvasakis) Lanzourakis. He married Stephanie Fondalakis on Dec. 28, 1955, in Greece. In 1969, he moved to the U.S. for a better life and became a U.S. citizen in 1975.

He was employed with IBP as a laborer until his retirement in 1986. Mr. Lanzourakis had cleaned the Roach Animal Hospital for the last 10 years and rarely missed a day of work until this week.

He loved to spend time in his vegetable garden, which he gave to family and friends. He loved to watch WW wrestling, watch news about Greece, loved to Greek dance, loved to sing and eat but, most of all, spend time with family and friends.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and Creekton Organization.

Survivors include his wife, Stephanie; two sons and their wives, Harry and Aline Lanzourakis of Papillion, Neb., and Paul and Helen Lanzourakis of Morton Grove, Ill.; a daughter, Irene Lanzourakis of Sioux City; a sister, Sophia Psiroudakis of Greece; six grandchildren, Melissa Lanzourakis and her husband, Al Joens, Diane Fondalakis, Zackery Lanzourakis, Nicholas Lanzourakis, George Lanzourakis and Luke Lanzourakis; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Georgia and Froso.
