Janet Rae Lyle

May 22, 1943 — January 5, 2008

Janet Rae Lyle, 64, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, January 10, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Laurice Streyffeler officiating. Burial will be in Kingsley City Cemetery, Kingsley, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City.

Janet was born May 22, 1943, in Sioux City, the daughter of Harry V. and Mildred (Sherwood) Lyle. She grew up in the Leeds area of Sioux City and graduated from Leeds High School. She graduated from Wayne State College with a degree in education.

She spent her teaching career at Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs, teaching physical education. She also coached volleyball and tennis and guided several of her teams to the state tournament. She took early retirement to enjoy life with her nieces and nephews.

As a young adult, she played softball. She also enjoyed working on several inventions.

Survivors include her brothers and sisters, Shirley Kistner of Sioux City, Bill Lyle and his wife, Muriel of Sioux City, Max Lyle and his wife, Sharon of Tucson, Ariz., and Mary Ferrari of Dakota Dunes, S.D.; and 15 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Pallbearers will be her nephews.
